What is a Conlang?
A constructed language (conlang) is a language whose phonology, grammar, and vocabulary are consciously devised, rather than having developed naturally.
History of Constructed Languages
The history of conlangs dates back centuries. Early attempts focused on philosophical or logical languages to perfect human thought. In the late 19th century, auxiliary languages like Esperanto arose to bridge global communication. Today, artistic conlangs dominate fiction, with pioneers like J.R.R. Tolkien leading the way.
Major Conlangs
Esperanto
Created by L.L. Zamenhof in 1887, it is the most widely spoken constructed international auxiliary language in the world.
Quenya & Sindarin
Elvish languages developed by J.R.R. Tolkien for his Middle-earth legendarium. They feature rich linguistic histories and beautiful aesthetics.
Klingon
Created by Marc Okrand for the Star Trek universe. It was designed to sound 'alien' with complex consonants and unique word order.
Toki Pona
A minimalist language invented by Sonja Lang, utilizing around 120 roots. It aims to shape the user's thought process into simpler forms.

Why do people make conlangs?
People create them for art, to build richer fictional worlds, for linguistic experimentation, or to formulate an easy-to-learn universal language.
Are they real languages?
Absolutely. If a language can be used to communicate complex thoughts between two people, it is functionally a real language.
Can anyone learn them?
Yes! Languages like Esperanto are designed to be easily learned. Others may be harder but have dedicated communities.
